“Weaning” Adult Children From Parents’ Financial Support

This article, for the Tribune’s Retirement Newsletter, is about how parents of adult children can ease them off financial support and help them get on their own successfully. This is not necessarily just for adult children who come back to live with their parents — this is also for kids who are otherwise doing well, but are accustomed to their parents paying the cell phone bill, health insurance, etc. I’d like to speak with a financial adviser who is familiar with this situation and can offer a few tips. I’m on a tight deadline and need to complete my interviews by mid-day Friday.
