I’m writing an article for “U.S. News & World Report” about moving out on your own for the first time. (I’m not talking about a first apartment in college but post-college, when you’re no longer being funded by the bank of Mom and Dad.) I’m looking to hear from financial experts who often advise young adults, and I wouldn’t mind hearing from some young adults who have been out on their own for a year or two and wouldn’t mind sharing what they wish they had done differently before moving (or what they’re really glad they did). But basically, I’m looking for advice on what steps people should take to secure their financial future – before they move out and become financially independent (or virtually financially dependent).
